Exploring the Charms of Tiong Bahru

4 Rm Apartment I Kim Tian Road

A leisurely stroll through the vibrant streets of Tiong Bahru unveils a truly unique Singaporean experience. From sleek, modern high-rise condominiums to meandering pathways amidst the island's oldest public housing flats, this neighborhood is a captivating sight, brimming with cultural treasures. What was once a landscape of hills, mangroves, swamps, and cemeteries has now been transformed into an enclave for artisanal coffee hangouts and independent creative studios.

Nestling your home within such a historically significant location in Singapore comes with a wave of artistic inspiration and boundless creativity. Drawing inspiration from the enclave's rich and colorful past, our endeavor was to redesign and face-lift a 22 year old apartment with a British colonial aesthetic.

Upon stepping into the space, your eyes are drawn to the elegant dining area. A custom mirror featuring intricate borders, complemented by a striking monochromatic statement light and a marble dining table, exudes refined sophistication. Balancing both functionality and aesthetics, one of the bedrooms was reimagined as a glass wall, allowing natural sunlight to permeate the entire space while still serving as a versatile work-from-home study if needed. The tv walls are adorned with beading and wainscotting, imparting character to an otherwise plain backdrop. The captivating combination of black and white is softened by the inclusion of gentle furnishings in a similar monochromatic palette.

In the culinary domain, we employed a simple black and white palette with intriguing details like marble-like small format floor tiles to draw attention to functional accents such as gold handles, art pieces, cookware, and accessories. This elevated the kitchen's backdrop, infusing the space with the distinct personality of the homeowners. Adding to the versatility of the layout, floor-to-ceiling wardrobes gracefully line the back of the bedhead feature wall in the master bedroom, creating a separate walk-in wardrobe away from the main resting zone.

Ultimately, the home is a reflection of a harmonious blend of rustic and historic elements with modern comforts and contemporary aesthetics.
