A TIMELESS NOSTALGIA

4 Room Apartment I Bidadari Park Drive

Mid-century design generally refers to the time period of about the 1940s to 1970s - A culturally eclectic era, bursting with creative expression in art, design, music, and fashion, and when it comes to interior decor, we're currently in the midst of a revival.

In this apartment, the design nods to that period transcends in an easy interior flow and great indoor-outdoor connections. Lower profiles were used in the space, particularly in seating options within the dining area. Brightly polished metal fixtures and oversized spherical lights are among the most easily recognisable design elements of that era - used as statement pendant lights and floor lights in this apartment, they add a glamorous dash of panache to decor while providing illumination. Our personal take into midcentury style for this apartment also went with a slightly more conservative approach rather than diving headlong into earth tones. So unlike what you would envision in your grandma’s apartment, those pumpkiny oranges, pea soup greens, and mustardy yellows all in the same room, we stuck to a primarily neutral color palette, using earth tones in soft or muted hues for color accents. White-washed walls and darker cabinetry tones clad the walls and provides a clean and easy backdrop for other decor and furnishings to style up the space.

We also loved that the homeowners’ job stint in Japan, inspired them and brought home these delightful glazed decorative pottery vases and artefacts that are now displayed prominently throughout the apartment. Natural elements inside the home including curated live potted plants, natural stone-like flooring, and prominent artwork that ties in the look and makes it a truly personable home.
